It is a medical procedure performed in hospitals. Local pain medicine will be given to the patient, and balloon catheters are then inserted in an artery which is usually near the groin. The blockages in the heart vessels are then identified by using X-rays and dye. The balloon will be inflated near the blockage, thus widening the blocked vessel and restoring adequate blood flow.
